Traveling is seen as a luxury
that can be afforded only by some and necessitates saving
over several months in order to get the holiday that you
want. This does not have to be the case. With a bit of
careful thought and a lot of planning, it really is possible
to travel on a budget.
Of course, traveling on a budget means different things to
different people. Some would consider a budget holiday to
involve backpacking and camping. This type of holiday can be
done on a budget relatively easily; the real skill arises when
you are trying to get a ‘luxury’ holiday for a budget
price.
The Travel Industry Association of America estimated that
the average family spends over $2,200 a year on an extended
vacation. If you save just 10% of that amount, think how it
will add up over the years.
Interestingly, paying more does not necessarily guarantee you a
better holiday.
Whenever you are on vacation, you will probably be
surrounded by other families, some of which have paid more than
you for the vacation and others which have paid significantly
less.
Finally, the time has come that you have
decided you either need, deserve or just want to take a
vacation. You might be the type of person who quickly throws
stuff in a suitcase and caution to the wind. However, most
people like to arrange their vacation to make it as worry and
trouble free as possible. The key here is planning and
organization. First you should select the type of
vacation and its destination. Are you looking for a relaxing
time on the beach, an exciting skiing vacation or a thrilling
gambling junket to the islands? Once you have narrowed down the
type of excursion you have chosen, it is time to do some
research.
You will want to find the peak time of the
year to go for your particular trip along with the best prices
on transportation and lodging. You can get the information from
your travel agent or do it yourself on the Internet. Then
depending on your decision, purchase the airline tickets,
schedule the cruise, rent a car or reserve the hotel or
campground. Arrange for transportation to and from the
airport.
Finding a bargain holiday is all about
being aware of the market and the deals that are
available. Pay attention to the basics such as when you
are going to travel or where you want to travel. If ou can
be a bit different to the masses you will find that you
can make huge savings. Being aware of what you can get
gives you a hugely advantageous bargaining point. Just
remember, you are the customer, so ask for what you want,
and don’t be afraid to haggle.
